Stock in a state is a separate trigger
The part most sellers get wrong
Marketplace sales are collected by the platform. Every state with a sales
tax now requires the marketplace to charge and remit the tax on sales it processes. You do
not remit that money yourself.
But that does not always make you invisible to the state. Some states still
count marketplace sales toward your own registration threshold, so a seller who has never
remitted a dollar can still be required to register and file returns, sometimes zero returns.
We have applied each state's own rule on this above.
And stock in a warehouse stands on its own. If your goods are physically
sitting in a state, that is a physical presence. It can create a registration duty with no
revenue threshold to cross first, even if every one of your sales went through a marketplace
that already collected the tax.
Your own website sales are entirely yours. Nobody collects those for you.
They count toward the threshold in every state, and once you cross, the tax is yours to
charge, file and remit.

The result above is the summary. The full report goes state by state: the exact threshold,
the measurement period each state uses, whether that state counts marketplace sales toward
your threshold, when registration is due once you cross, and the order we would tackle them in.
We will send it as a PDF.
If you would rather just talk it through, that is usually faster.

How confident is this?
Please read this
This is an estimate produced from the figures you entered. It is not tax advice, it is not
a nexus study, and it does not create a professional relationship between us. It cannot see
your actual sales records, your product taxability, your warehouse locations, or anything
you did in earlier years.
Economic nexus thresholds, measurement periods and marketplace rules change, sometimes with
little notice. The date the underlying figures were last checked is shown at the top of this
tool. Where we could not verify a state's current rule from a primary source, we say so and
route you to a conversation rather than putting a number in front of you.
Sales tax is decided state by state, and the consequences of getting it wrong accumulate
quietly. Before you register anywhere, or decide not to, have the position reviewed against
your real records.
